Cloud technologies for small businesses
Symantec Corp. has issued a report on the results of studying the propagation of cloud computing among small businesses in Russia. The study found that the majority – 81% – employees use the cloud for business purposes. But despite the high prevalence of cloud computing among survey participants, only a quarter of respondents feel a sense of confidence, placing the information in the cloud.
According to Symantec, IT professionals and security experts often say that their companies cloud technologies are not used, all the data are within the corporate network. However, in the staff, especially smaller organizations, or use some form of cloud computing, and it raises questions about the protection of information of these companies and the application of certain policies by using cloud technologies. According to the study, a significant number of small businesses in Russia are already using cloud computing, many of their employees are popular free cloud services as part of their professional activities, and some – professional cloud business applications. In particular, 44% of respondents are using cloud storage files, and uses 41% posted in the cloud application. In addition, 20% of respondents use for business purposes the personal e-mail.
The majority of respondents said at least heard about cloud computing, and 68% of small businesses correctly characterized this as a “remote storage, protection, and access to data,” or “Internet services that are available by subscription.” Among the main reasons for moving to cloud solutions respondents identified factors such as reduced costs of operation, increased mobility, improved data protection (backup / restore), and increasing the level of information security. At the same time, they expressed concern about the security of the data, their integrity, as well as lack of control, calling the main factors barriers to the use of cloud solutions. Only a quarter of respondents feel secure information stored in the cloud, while slightly smaller number acknowledged that would be concerned about this state of affairs.
Study on the use of cloud technology companies small and medium businesses conducted in Russia by YouGov commissioned by Symantec in September 2012, was attended by more than 200 owners, managers and IT speialistov small businesses, questions were asked for their views on the adoption of cloud services.
