Nederland I.S.D. has agreed to pay for 90% of the expenses incurred for Mrs. Cowles' treatment.

To whom it may concern;

    Saturday, May 16, there will be a car wash and link sale for Regina Cowles, Nederland High School Journalism teacher.  Cowles was diagnosed with breast cancer in October and has undergone five rounds of chemotherapy.  Currently she is in need of a Stem Cell Transplant, and her insurance company, Blue Cross Blue Shield, will not pay for the operation.  The company has denied the claim for surgery, saying that it is an experimental procedure, even though doctors have been performing it for the past ten years.

   Due to the immense costs involved with the surgery, Cowles' students and ex-students are working to raise the $112,000 needed for the Stem Cell Transplant.   The aforementioned link sale and car wash will last from 9am to 4pm at Dickerson's Exxon on the corner of Twin City Highway and Nederland Avenue.  Other events are also currently being planned, including a benefit concert.  Moreinformation concerning the concert will be announced on a later date.  Donations are also being accepted at Golden Triangle Federal Credit Union in the name of Roger Cowles, Account Number 2229.   In the event that donations exceed the amount needed, funds will be donated to assist other cancer victims with medical expenses.

    At this time we would appreciate any donation your company is willing to give towards a raffle which will be held at the car wash and link sale. We greatly appreciate your cooperation in this matter. For more information contact Jennifer Hebert at (409)727-1200.
