NVIDIA would like to see their chips in the iPad

Founder and president Jen-Hsun Huang of NVIDIA Corporation (Jen-Hsun Huang) usually does not go on the answers, and this he demonstrated during an interview at the event AsiaD. In addition, he confirmed that plans for future products Tegra, also quite openly shared his thoughts on the future of Windows platform ARM. When asked Engadget editor Joanna Stern (Joanna Stern) he was a little confused said:

“For Microsoft, it is important not to position it as a PC. From the point of view the best scenario – I can not say that they are interested – I would first released Windows for ARM. This would help in understanding that this is not a PC.

Will yesterday’s Office to work on tomorrow’s Windows on ARM-PC? Will the new version of Office to work on tomorrow’s Windows on ARM-plates? Both issues relate to compatibility, and both questions say about Office. Implementation in practice [in the first and the second case] is quite different. I see no reason to run Office 95 on ARM-version of Windows … If the [new package] Office will be available on ARM – is paramount advantage. The rest is on the web. ” Все еще мечтаете получить Европейское гражданство и переехать в одну из стран ЕС? Хватит мечтать, пора действовать!

He expressed the hope that the Office suite for the ARM-version of Windows will support the same files as the contemporary of Microsoft Office. That is, by analogy with the Office for the Mac, which is fully compatible with Windows-version of the software.

Speaking of processors, Tegra mobile chips, and in general, he noted that NVIDIA has changed somewhat in recent years. The head of California’s graphics company believes that a direct confrontation with Intel was a bad idea, noting that in 2011 the competition was very different. Indeed, in recent NVIDIA rarely opposes itself from Intel, in contrast to the situation observed in the past.

Mr Huang said that his company has instead focused on two main areas: visual computing and mobile computing. As a result, the main competitor of the company is considering Qualcomm. However, he also noted that, while NVIDIA has entered the mobile market in the sphere of computing, Qualcomm has come to him from the communication. He added that the indirect competition allowed NVIDIA to achieve considerable results: its products are used by many companies.

Today, Tegra chips are used in 70% of the tablet other than iPad, as well as in 13 smartphones around the world (and the number of such products continues to grow). Jen-Hsun Huang suggests that in the future production of mobile chips to change much compared to the current state of affairs. He believes that today, this industry is not very developed, with the result that sometimes the same chip used in the mass of different products, from tablets and smartphones to players and other devices. However, in his opinion, it will not last long – as it is today Intel is presenting a family of different chip series Core i, so soon will happen in the mobile market.

Thus, the development of tablets, the company eventually will develop a separate Tegra chips for tablets, but separately – for smart phones. However, while this, according to Mr. Huang, it is too early to say. He said that to bring to market a system based on NVIDIA need to design chips 500 and 1,000 software developers have worked two or three years. While economic reasons to develop chips for tablets alone is impractical.

According to Jen-Hsun Huang, in the future, Apple may need foreign processors to create their mobile devices, especially for tablets. He noted that NVIDIA would be very pleased to supply chips for the tablet iPad.

Another curious opinion of Mr. Huang is the fact that in the future, when the chips (apparently, NVIDIA) can achieve an even better ratio of energy consumption, size and performance, icons, mobile applications will become much more alive. They will use textures, constantly change and be dynamic and interactive all the time, not eating with the battery charge (probably it is a 3D-objects in mobile user interfaces instead of icons). When the time of such interfaces? Chapter NVIDIA believes that very soon.

Finally, speaking of cars, Jen-Hsun Huang reminded that all cars Audi, since 2012, will be equipped with electronics, working on chips NVIDIA, and also assured that we will see many cars with processors him company.
